Too bad each enemy is more dangerous than the last, and the Astonisher is finding out the hard way how tough it is to be a hero.

To save his celebrity reputation after a near-death experience, Magnus Attarian became the world's newest meteor-powered superhero, The Astonisher . . . and it's been a colossal failure.   Now recovering from brain trauma in a mental facility, one of Magnus's enemies has returned to kill Magnus and prevent him from interfering with a plan to control all of Earth's new superpowered people.  

Magnus Attarian has worked hard to rebuild his reputation as the would-be superhero Astonisher. It hasn't been going well.   Luckily, he has a support group by his side in the shape of: Sasha (his girlfriend), Adila (his mother's assistant), and a new player, Charles Carver (an FBI agent), ready to take on the various new superpowered meteor infected that have been tearing up Manhattan.   Sounds like a bad joke, but then, isn't that Magnus's life?

After Magnus escapes the mental facility with the help of Sasha and Adila, the three take refuge with FBI agent Charles Cleaver. Magnus, however, is less than content to settle down in hiding and seeks solace in the familiarity of the nightlife. He gets a rude wake-up call when he sees his brother, Drew, living the life Magnus believed was his. Worse yet, his brother is still after him, and Magnus isn't ready to go quietly. 

The fallout from Magnus's actions last issue is hitting his relationship with both Sasha and Adila hard. With his two biggest supporters less than happy to welcome him with open arms, Magnus begins to spiral even further down the hole he's dug. Charles, the FBI Branch Seven agent who's taken Magnus under protective custody, offers a distraction in the form of learning more about Magnus's powers.  What follows is more mind-bending horror; as Magnus opens his mind, he learns more about the real demons lurking in the shadows. 

Things never seem to go the way Magnus wants them to. What started as a journey toward redemption for Magnus's image has slowly turned into a journey of kidnapping, secret agencies, psychic mind freaks, and even more distance between him and his family. Now is the time to be a real superhero and rescue the only person who's ever stayed by his side from Dr. Saperstein, who's trying his best to continue ruining Magnus's life.  The climax of Magnus's story is drawing near, something he may or may not be ready to handle.

A surprising new player from last issue released a new weapon upon the populace, so it's up to Magnus and Sasha to save his fractured family, his friends, and a bunch of other people who they don't even know.
